Holiday Style Tips

The holidays are a time of friends, family...and fashion confusion. Even the most stylish women can get thrown off by the extra demand of the holiday season: How do you dress for work knowing you're going straight to a party afterwards? How do you avoid buying a separate dress for every event? How can you look festive without relying on same-old red and green? The trick lies in a few simple accessories.

The After-Hours Switch

sparkly holiday clutchFor work, start with a tried-and-true black pencil skirt paired with a black blazer and a top in a festive color. You could update a traditional look with a jewel-toned red or green, or go more modern with pink or blue. Grab an oversized bag (like this gorgeous Givenchy) to stash your after-hours accessories.

After hours, leave your blazer at the office. Slip your lipstick, phone, and wallet into a sparkly clutch and swap your standard work shoes for these Jimmy Choo pumps. Finish the look with dangly earrings and a pretty pendant.

The Golden Rules

You don't have to rely on red and green to look festive - try swapping your regular accessories for gilded versions. If there's a season when you can afford to overdose on sparkly shoes, glittery clutches, and shiny baubles, this is it.

P.S.- Don't be afraid to mix metallics! During the holiday season, silver and gold go together just like red and green.

Say Yes to the Dress

You don't have to buy a new dress to get a new look. Invest in a few key accessories, and your favorite little black dress will take you through the holidays. On Friday, try matching your makeup to your shoes: go for bright red pumps, a bold red lip, and a fresh scarlet manicure. On Saturday, wear it with sparkly pumps, a glittery clutch, and stacked beads or bangles. On Sunday morning, wear it to brunch with a timeless scarf and red suede flats. Hermès: Holiday Gifts With History

Have you ever wondered why the Hermès logo is a carriage with horses? It’s not just a nod to the nobility of ages past - it’s an homage to the boutique’s beginnings as a Parisian harness workshop. The expertly tooled leather and finely crafted metalwork synonymous with Hermès accessories is the result of over a century of experience creating some of the most sought-after carriage harnesses and bridles.

Hermes for sale

The Hermès flagship store in Paris has been providing exceptional leatherwork to international customers from the same location since 1880, but their foray into fashion wasn’t until 1900, when they created their first bag. In 1918, after securing the exclusive rights to use the zipper in France, they created the first leather golf jacket - in fact, the zipper used to be called the “fermeture Hermès,” or “Hermès fastener.” Hermès has continued to produce exceptional accessories ever since then, opening the first two US stores in 1924, creating the ubiquitous “carrés” (scarves) in 1937 and the perfume Eau d'Hermès in 1949.

Trend Alert: Tortoise Shell Trend

Prints are always a fun way to spice up an outfit and show off your fun side. With spring and summer time, floral prints are the way to go mostly for apparel. However, for accessories the runways this year have shown that tortoise shell print is on trend for this season. Some are even calling it the new leopard print. Even celebrities like Miranda Kerr and Jennifer Aniston have embraced this trend in the past. You can shop some tortoise shell print items as well as other great merchandise at DoubleTake Consignment Boutique’s Englewood location! 35 Nathaniel Place, Englewood NJ!

Trend Alert: Sheer Details

By Tessa Viole

A big trend that was seen during Fashion Week for this season was sheer details on tops, skirts, pants, and other articles of clothing. The sheer detailing can be either mesh or silk like materials. This is a great trend for those who want to give off a chic and subtly sexy look. Unlike the crop top trend, the sheer detailing allows for a way to show off skin tastefully. Not only does sheer detailing look great, but it allows a very light and airy feel—perfect for the spring and summertime! Many celebrities are also embracing the trend.

You can embrace the sheer detail trend at DoubleTake Boutique in Englewood, NJ with these pieces!

The 2014 Oscars...

kept it real. I mean how often do we see celebrities order and actually eat pizza!? Let's not forget about the epic selfie that was taken and CRASHED twitter!!

"AND THE OSCAR FOR THE BEST DRESSED GOES TO....."

I couldn't pick just one, so I picked 5. Ooops?

1. Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace.

 2. The angelic Lupita Nyong'o in a "Nairobi" blue gown from Prada.

3. Although I was not a fan of her hair, Jennifer Lawrence did look gorgeous in her Dior gown tailored to perfection.

4. Amy Adams staying true to her sense of style in this Gucci gown.

5. Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab Haute couture looked FAB, her 42 carat diamond earrings were also beautiful.  I also wouldn't mind having Brad Pitt as an accessory either.

The most touching moment of the night was Jared Leto winning best supporting actor. His acceptance speech was absolutely riveting. There need to be more people like him in this world. He is beautiful on the inside....and out.

Award season is in full effect!

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the genius comedic duo, slayed the audience as hosts of the 2014 Golden Globes. Not only did they have me laughing so hard it felt like an ab workout, they had my jaw dropping with how gorgeous they looked.

Sofia Vergara also looked stunning in her Zac Posen gown, but it was the Lorraine Schwartz necklace that made a statement.

American Horror Story didn't win any awards that night, but they all were fashion winners to me!

The 2014 Grammy Awards  also had an unbelievable red carpet. My favorite look of the night was the Queen Bee herself miss Beyonce. She looked FAB in her Michael Costello gown, and her ox blood lip was stunning!

Taylor Swift also looked beautiful in her Gucci gown, as well as Kelly Osbourne who wore Badgley Mischka.

Can we also please talk about those nails!? LOVE THEM!

I also liked Katy Perry's unique Valentino gown, lets face it, she can pull off anything. She attended the awards show with her incredibly handsome younger brother.

Colbie Calliet wowed in her Ezra Santos gown. I normally wouldn't have paired a smokey eye and red lip with a red gown, but she is totally working it!

I also really adored Rita Ora's entire look. Her hair, makeup, and dress were all on point. I would have never picked this Lanvin dress if I saw it on a hanger, but she took the risk, and it paid off!

Pink also looked flawless. She has one of the most toned bodies in the business and she isn't afraid to show it off in her Johanna Johnson dress.

I have been very pleased so far with what I have been seeing on the red carpet. These looks always inspire me to try something new and think out of the box. I can't wait to play in my closet!!
