Englewood Grand Opening Party

On Thursday, November 18th, 2010, the women and *supporting* men of Doubletake celebrated Englewood’s Grand Opening with a sophisticated and fun cocktail party.  The fashionistas of Short Hills, Englewood, Ridgewood, and Red Bank were all in attendance, which lent itself to the family atmosphere.  We munched on delicious sushi and desserts while we got to know each other.  The store is beyond gorgeous-no detail was overlooked.  The windows depicted a sparkly and snowy Winter Wonderland.  Chanel pumps and other items were softly nestled in the snow.  Colorful ornaments and gifts throughout the store gave a festive feel.  Englewood definitely had no shortage of high end designer merchandise in their store, and I found myself struggling with the urge to buy J No detail was overlooked-from the hot pink walls surrounding the fitting rooms, designated consignment area, and open sales floor.  The spacious store will undoubtedly give customers the freedom to shop with ease without having to maneuver through racks and shelves.  Some of the goodies that caught my eye were Chanel jewelry sets, an olive green Hermes Birkin bag, a blue studded Chanel handbag-not to mention the shelves full of Christian Louboutins.  While a part of me was definitely a little envious of the new store, Short Hills has MUCH to look forward to J  We will be revamping in the very near future.  Thanks to Marci and the girls at Englewood for throwing such a beautiful event, we all had a great time!

Consignment 101

Consignment has been around forever, but for whatever reason, there is SO much confusion about it.  A consignment shop is not a thrift shop or a glorified garage sale.  Especially not DoubleTake.  An ideal consigner for DoubleTake is a fashionista of any age with designer/high end, clothing, handbags, accessories, and shoes taking up room in their closets.  If these items are in great condition and are “resale ready”, she may bring those items in to us in hopes of making a profit.  Our team researches the item, making sure it is of current interest/relevance and prices it anywhere from 25-40% of the retail price depending on the item and its condition.  If an item gets sold, the store and the consignor split the profit 50% and a check will automatically be mailed to them on the pay date of that month.
We do not hand out cash to consignors, or price items on the spot.    This is a common misconception about consignment.  DoubleTake gives the consignor a 90 day period during which their items will remain on the sales floor.  Each consignor is given an expiration date for their items, and they must either make arrangements to have their unsold items picked up, or the items will then be donated to the Market Street Mission.  There is no “not knowing” when items are going off the floor or are expired.  DoubleTake makes sure each consignor has a contract and explanation of our policies.  We make a sincere effort to make sure the consignor gets what she deserves for the item she has brought in rather than just trying to turn a profit for ourselves.  As another courtesy to our customers, we have open consignment hours throughout the week and for an hour on Saturdays-as opposed to other consignment shops which require that you make an appointment to be seen.
What sets DoubleTake apart from other consignment shops is the inventory of amazing designer finds that can’t be found in other shops as well as a polished reputation with our customers and consigners.  We have everything from Hermes Birkin bags to Tory Burch flats.  We have been featured on the Martha Stewart and Nate Berkus shows and have received rave reviews by local press.  Last month we opened 3 more locations to better serve our customers, so check us out in Short Hills, Englewood, Ridgewood, and/or Red Bank J
Ok ladies, consider yourself versed in a consignment crash course.  Any questions?
