Denim Daze

Whether it’s a denim jacket, romper, dress, or vest; April 28th 2011 is all about wearing denim for a purpose! This Thursday is “Denim Day in NJ”, Denim Day is a day (or weekend) of raising awareness about sexual violence prevention. In 1990 an 18 year old girl in Italy was picked up by her 45 year old driving instructor. Once her lesson began, she was forced to pull over and was sexually assaulted.  On her arrival home, she told her parents who then pressed charges against her perpetrator.  In a matter of days the case was dismissed as “the victim must have helped her attacker remove her jeans because they were ‘tight,’ thereby implying her consent” (Congressional Record, Steven Rothman).  Within a few hours the women of the Italian Parliament began to protest and wore jeans to work. This day of awareness is recognized across the world in hopes of future cases such as the one stated above.  Spreading awareness and a fashion trend, as our Ridgewood employees would say “who is better than you?”
While some trends come and go in a split second, one fabric that will never fade from our wardrobes is denim. Comfortable and forever stylish, denim will match and reinforce those 15 minutes of fame trends. Now in order to stand out from the crowd on April 28th, use denim to your advantage by enhancing your silhouette. Slim and smooth curves come from using a high rise dark wash denim jean and are further reinforced by a looser floral blouse. While shorter ladies (like me!) should use skinny jeans that will give your legs a stronger and lengthier look. Coming in blues, blacks, whites, and even some in floral print, a girl’s best friend will always be her favorite pair of jeans that go from casual to dress in a matter of seconds.  Now this April 28 to splurge a little to add to your collection of designer jeans and support a great cause!

Flow With The Wind

Flattering, feminine, and foxy; the full skirt has made its way back into the wardrobes of fashionistas across America. These spring and summer seasons are all about picking up waist lines and dropping hems to create an elegant and lavish silhouette. Everyone from Marc Jacobs to Michael Kors to Chanel are completing their collections with this sophisticated voluminous and knee-length skirt. Whether in a pastel color or a floral print, the most flattering way to wear this look is by pairing the full high waisted skirt with a tight and form fitting top. By using a fitted and tucked in tank top, this look is transformed into a sleek and polished ensemble that can be worn during any occasion. Whether it is a graduation party, bridal shower, or just to wear to the office this look is great for all business casual occasions and will be sure to make everyone do a “doubletake.”

Bye, Bye Bulky Bags

From the Hermes 2011 Fashion Show
As worn by Hanneli
This summer is all about revamping and reviving the popular and iconic styles of the 80’s. One trend that has made its way back to the waists of fashionistas everywhere is the fanny pack, or as it is now known, “the belt purse”.  The days of lugging a heavy shoulder bag are officially over as this elegant look makes shopping hands and hassle free again! Everyone from Emilio Pucci to Louis Vuitton to Hermes to Diane Von Furstenberg is reinventing the once bulky nylon bag into a sleek and elegant accessory. Small, stylish, and chic, the belt purse took over and rocked the runways of almost all of the spring and summer 2011 fashion shows. To get the most out of your belt purse make sure to purchase it in a brown, white, or black leather as it helps creates a more elegant and multi-factitive look.  Now this reinvented fashion is perfect for every occasion and can help enhance a look from good and acceptable to stunning and flawless!  When going out for a night in the town, wear the belt purse either at or above waist level to create a more established and classic silhouette. Or if you want to create a more laid back and casual look, let the purse lay at or below hip level. Say so long and goodbye to the over bearing bags of yesterday and hello to the belt purse of today!

Floral Fashions

After a long and arduous winter of dark grays, dusky blacks, and deep blues, spring has finally arrived and of course bringing with her fabulous floral prints. Following a cold and dim snow season, the best way to bring in spring fever is with the bright and brilliant colors of tulips, daisies, and lilies. Big, small, and even exotic prints will all be elegantly and beautifully colored upon the most fashionable dresses, blouses, and skirts of the season. The most effective way to wear a floral is to break up the pattern by pairing it with a solid color piece of apparel or accessory. A graceful floral dress will be enhanced with a vibrantly blue blazer or create a stunning outfit by pairing an orchid blouse with a pair of pastel pants and shorts. This look and the other upcoming trends of Spring 2011 can always be found at your nearest DoubleTake.

Surviving the Storms

April showers will possibly bring May flowers, but we have to survive the storm in order to get to the sunshine. This spring season is all about protective fashion, also known as the very versatile and stylish rain jacket. Arriving in waterproof material and bright colors, pastel trench coats and eloquently detailed over coats will make walking through the rain like walking on the runway. Whether a drizzle or drencher, you want to make sure you have the best quality coat to confirm it will be a dry storm and no one has mastered the art of the trench coat as well as Burberry. Coming in their classic patterns or even a vibrant color, Burberry rain and trench coats are the most reliable, yet sleek and trendy protective gear of the season. Pricing between $800 -1,200, you may think this chic look can make a pretty big indent in your wallet, but at Doubletake this piece is cut in half pricing at approximately $500-$550.
